The Hotel Medinaceli **** (Monument Hotel) is not just a place to rest; it’s a destination waiting to be discovered. Its history, dating back to the 19th century (1852-1853), has witnessed fascinating transformations. From its origins as Casa Villoch, residence of the Marquess of Comillas, to becoming the headquarters of major transatlantic companies, and finally, today, the elegant and vibrant Hotel Medinaceli.
With its imposing façade, still holding the splendor of past times, its large windows, wrought-iron balconies, and stone walls, this building whispers stories of the past. The hotel’s entrance, located in Plaça Duc de Medinaceli, places you right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, just steps from the Port Vell. The entrance, with its majestic wooden door adorned with metal details, flanked by columns and topped with a semi-circular arch, invites you into a space where history meets the present.
As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a unique work of art by the French artist Etienne Moyat, a mural that fills our fantastic lobby with warmth and personality. In the central atrium, the Medinaceli Staircase is another of the hotel’s treasures. An impressive spiral staircase with a glass roof, suspended in mid-air, bathed in natural light. This piece, which blends classic and modern design, is one of the most photographed spots in the hotel.
Breakfast here is a unique sensory experience, where architecture meets gastronomy. The wide arches framing the space highlight a selection of fresh products, giving you a delicious, fresh, and authentic start to your day.
And of course, many of our rooms offer stunning views of the port and the iconic Plaza del Duc de Medinaceli. Each window becomes a living painting, inviting you to relax, enjoy the view, and immerse yourself in the magic of Barcelona, as if you were living a unique story.
